🏰 A Brief History of Moldova
The territory of modern Moldova was inhabited by ancient communities and later influenced by different peoples and empires. During the Middle Ages, much of the region became part of the Principality of Moldavia.
In 1812, the eastern part of Moldavia, commonly known as Bessarabia, came under the control of the Russian Empire. During the twentieth century, the region experienced several major political changes.
Much of present-day Moldova became part of Romania after World War I and was later incorporated into the Soviet Union during World War II.
Moldova declared independence in 1991 following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Today, it is a parliamentary republic.
